Whale
The grey gull sat on a floating whale,
On a floating whale sat he,
And he told his tale of the storm and the gale,
And the ships that he saw with steam and sail,
As he flew by the Northern Sea…
“I have seen that flag that is starred with white,”
Said a southern gull, said he,
“And saw it fly in a bloody fight,
When the raider Emden turned in flight,
And crashed on the Cocos lee”…
“Whenever there’s ever rule to break,
Wherever they oughtn’t to be,
With a death to dare and a risk to take,
A track to find or a way to make,
You will find them there,” said he.
“They come from a land that is parched with thirst,
An inland land,” said he,
“On risk and danger their breed is nursed,
And thus it happens their flag is first
To fly in the Northern Sea.”
The whale is the earth’s record keeper and serves as the ultimate librarian. The vast intellect of whale is held deep in the ocean, within the collective unconscious. She knows the origin of the cosmos in both dream worlds and in reality. She is nurturing and patient, knowing that there is more to life than meets the eye. She teaches us through vibration and sound that we must listen to what is really being said. The soft voices, the low frequencies of sounds may communicate more truth than the words which are being spoken. When whale breaches into your life pay attention! Listen to the world around you, especially when the sounds come from a great distance.

Sacred Story
A humble man stopped to rest outside the door of a rich man’s home. He complained to Allah that the world felt unfair, for some have more than they need while others work hard only to remain poor. The rich man overheard these sad sentiments and asked the poor man come inside. The rich man named Sinbad tells the poor man (also named Sinbad) that he became wealthy “by Fortune and Fate.” Thus begins the tales of Sinbad and the seven seas. In his first voyage, Sinbad (the rich) sets ashore on what he thinks is an island as lovely as the garden of Eden but instead proves to be a huge sleeping whale. The whale is woken by the fire that was set to warm the sailors. To remove this discomfort, the whale began to move. Captain cried out: ‘All aboard quickly! This is not an island, but a huge whale you have stirred!’ Some reached the ship, but others did not; because the island shook suddenly and sank into the depths of the ocean. Sinbad is one who is left behind and is saved by a passing wooden trough sent by the grace of Allah. This floating wood takes him to a real island where he befriends a king and is richly rewarded.
