Raven

Open here I flung the shutter,
when, with many a flirt and flutter,
In there stepped a stately raven
of the saintly days of yore;
Not the least obeisance made he;
not a minute stopped or stayed he;
But, with mien of lord or lady,
perched above my chamber door…

Edgar Allan Poe

Ravens nest in the evergreens near my house. They can catch a thermal and seem to simply hover in place. Sometimes they tuck in their wings and drop out of the sky. They are unexpectedly playful, for birds with such a dark reputation. While they certainly do bring news about the otherworld, they are really more grounded in respect than fear. Think transformation rather than death. They are messengers and advisors, they are also secret keepers. A master of timing, raven can bend time and space for you at the most fortuitous moment. His ability to travel between worlds helps harness this sense of synchronicity. Raven is curious, smart, and honest. He prefers the company of a few over a crowd. He does not bestow his gifts on the masses. He is looking for you. If Raven has perched upon your window, listen carefully. There is a message from the universe for you, and something is about to change. Raven is curious how you will respond to such a gift.

Sacred Story

From the frozen northland of Norse mythology, comes a tale of the mighty Odin. God of wisdom, healing, battle, and poetry, Oden had two important advisors named Huginn (pronounced HOO-guin) and Muninn (pronounced MOO-nin). These wise ravens would perch upon his shoulders and whisper in his ears, telling him of all the events of Midgard. Each day the Huginn and Muninn would travel Midgard at dawn and collect the news of the day. With their extremely shrewd minds, powers of observation, and ability to understand languages, no secrets were kept from them. Huginn and Muninn also accompany Odin into battle, where they provide him with sage advice and have the magic ability to heal his horse.
