Pisces:
The Fish
In early Greek mythology, the goddess Gaia (Mother Earth) gave birth to a terrible monster named Typhon. He had 100 dragon’s heads, his eyes sparked with fire, and his blackened tongues spouted horrible sounds which only the gods could understand. The gods were not big fans of Typhon and cast him out of Olympus. Angered by being ostracized, Typhon rose up to Mount Olympus and threatened each of the gods. To escape Typhon’s fury, the gods transformed themselves into different animals and made their escape. For some reason, however, Aphrodite and Eros were not able to change. The lovers were instead saved by two fish who carried them to safety. To honor the bravery of the fish, the Greek gods placed them in the heavens to become the constellation Pisces.
House of Pisces
The final house in the cycle is called the House of the Unconscious. It rules the imagination and our creativity, along with the subconscious mind. This subconscious attempts to make sense of our lives. As Jung called it, the shadow play is not to be hurried or skipped over. Only when we learn our lessons, facing both the past and present with honesty, are we really able to move forward.
As the last house, some have called it the House of Reckoning. It is an opportunity to review who we have been and what we have accomplished. We now know our inner strengths and weaknesses. With this information it is time to choose where we will go next. It rules endings of all kinds. For that reason it can have a negative reputation. However, it brings to bear only what we have ourselves wrought. It is an accounting. “Closer to fine” by the Indigo Girls is a great song for this house.

When you are old and gray and full of sleep
And nodding by the fire, take down this book,
And slowly read, and dream of the soft look
Your eyes had once, and of their shadows deep;
How many loved your moments of glad grace,
And loved your beauty with love false or true;
But one man loved the pilgrim soul in you,
And loved the sorrows of your changing face.
And bending down beside the glowing bars,
Murmur, a little sadly, how love fled
And paced upon the mountains overhead,
And hid his face amid a crowd of stars.
