Moonstone

The Stone of Tenderness

These gems have life in them:
their colors speak,
say what words fail of.

George Eliot

Moonstone, in many legends, is thought to be made directly from moonbeams. Because of this, they harness many lunar qualities such as healing and change. It is believed to protect against insanity and clouded thinking. As a sleep aid, it can bring about prophetic dreams. The subtle power of this luminescent gem can nurture a tender passion and on a full moon can help to bring lovers together, often serving as an aphrodisiac.

Sacred Story

The Moonstone and the werewolf are often connected. The tradition of the werewolf varies from culture to culture but has existed in many forms throughout history. Also called lycanthropy, it may be defined as the change of a person into the form of a full wolf or sometimes a human/wolf hybrid. This can occur either by magical hereditary means or as punishment or curse, usually for the crime of cannibalism. In some cases, the moonstone can assist werewolves in shifting or transforming. In other cases, it can protect an innocent from the werewolf.
