Emerald
The Stone of the Heart
There’s music in my heart all day,
I hear it late and early,
It comes from fields are far away,
The wind that shakes the barley.
Above the uplands drenched with dew
The sky hangs soft and pearly,
An emerald world is listening to
The wind that shakes the barley.
Above the bluest mountain crest
The lark is singing rarely,
It rocks the singer into rest,
The wind that shakes the barley.
Oh, still through summers and through springs
It calls me late and early.
Come home, come home, come home, it sings,
The wind that shakes the barley.
Emerald is the birthstone of beautiful Megara, but it is not one of her favorites. Perhaps it is too romantic for her. That being said, it is one of my favorites. Emerald is a stone of love, romance, and joy. An earthy stone, it is all about verdant green lushness. It is sacred to the goddess Venus, who wields the powers sourced in beauty and love. But this is not a stone of illusion. There is a truth and value in beauty and love. They are very real powers, and one diminishes their importance at their own risk. This is not at all to say being “pretty” is all that critical. True beauty, true love, true joy are in fact what we spend our lives searching for. How can we say they are not important?

Sacred Story
The origin of Western alchemy begins in Alexandria at the great library where Hermes the Thrice-Great created the mystical Emerald Tablet. Inscribed with the secrets of the universe, this text has been studied throughout history by scholars like Sir Isaac Newton, who left a translation of this tablet among his alchemical papers. While his translation currently resides in the King’s College Library at Cambridge University, some believe that the original Emerald Tablet is in fact in the underwater city of Atlantis.
