Diamond

The difference between you and her
(whom I to you did once prefer)
Is clear enough to settle:
She like a diamond shone, but you
Shine like an early drop of dew
Poised on a red rose petal.

The dew-drop carries in its eye
Mountain and forest, sea and sky,
With every change of weather;
Contrariwise, a diamond splits
The prospect into idle bits
That none can piece together.

Robert Graves

The diamond seems to always have a sense of certainty about it.  It is a stone of extremes.  A gem of the winter it is reminiscent of pure ice.  And yet, it is also the crystal of light, refracting into every color of the rainbow.  It has a feeling of perfection about it that can be difficult to live up to.  Unyielding, the diamond is strength without compromise.  In this, it can have an impartiality to it.  Diamond will reflect and amplify whatever energy it is given with no sense of “good” or “bad”.  Do not use this stone without intention or things can run amuck.

Sacred Story

In France, there is a fairy tale called Diamonds and Toads.  One day, a kind servant girl came upon an old woman who was thirsty, so she helped her to drink before gathering her own water.  The old woman blessed her, and said that she would receive diamonds for her kindness.  The girl went home and explained what happened, and as she told the tale diamonds dropped from her lips.  The lady of the house sent her favorite daughter out to the well to get the same blessing, but this daughter found a princess instead of the old woman.  Treating the princess with contempt and the daughter was cursed her with toads for her rudeness.  When the daughter came home, toads poured from her mouth as she told the tale.
