Aventurine
Stone of Luck
Aventurine is an earthy stone. It holds a collection of small inclusions made from shiny minerals, giving the stone a sparkling effect known as aventurescence. Mica sprinkles will give a silverish sheen, while hematite sparkles give a reddish/grayish glimmer. Although aventurine can come in many colors, my little stone is green. The name is victim to many misnomers. Aventurine comes from the Italian “a ventura,” which means”by chance”. It was by chance that Venitian artists discovered aventurine glass. Additionally, some folks call it adventurine. Both names somehow work for this little gem, as it is excellent for both luck and adventure. It is also an all-purpose healer. Aventurine can bring peace to a troubled spirit, improve creativity, and build confidence. It is helpful for seeing the best in things and it bears a very hopeful perspective.

Sacred Story
Aventurine is precious to Kuan Yin, the Goddess of Mercy and Compassion. Wanting a holy life, Kuan Yin wished to become a nun. Her father refused her and had her killed when she would not marry. Forced to the underworld, her purity and kindness shined so brightly that she turned it into Paradise. Perhaps compassion and luck go hand in hand.
