Amethyst
In the dreamy vale of beeches
Fair and faint is woven mist,
And the river’s orient reaches
Are the palest amethyst.
These crystals were once considered as rare and precious as sapphires, out of reach to any but the richest of rulers. Over time, more mines were discovered and amethyst was finally available to regular folks. I like to think of spiritual connections traversing the same journey, once only accessible to a few, now open to everyone. The colors of amethyst range from pale pink to deep purple and are evocative of royalty, healing, and mystery. While the pinker stones strengthen femininity, the deeper purple stones are traditionally used by men to attract love. In both cases, Amethyst works by drawing positive energy and warding off evil. Stability and strength from this stone bring a deep peace. Amethyst balances both sides of the brain, relieving pressures and allowing great insights to occur. This is a stone I like to always have around.

Sacred Story
A young woman named Amethyst was making her way to the Temple of Diana, goddess of the hunt and moon. On her way, she came upon Bacchus who was cross over a perceived slight. As he had vowed to take revenge on the next person he saw, he angrily unleashed his two guardian tigers upon her. Diana saw this injustice and intervened by turning Amethyst into a clear stone to protect her from the tigers. With remorse at what he had done in temper, Bacchus poured wine over the stone staining it a deep purple and gave the crystal Amethyst’s name.
